Brutalist sofa

This very particular style was born after the Second World War. The term "brutalism" knew a great vogue among architects, no one knew precisely what it ever covered. It was in England that appeared in the early 1950s as the "new brutalism". A number of young architects used these elements qualifing violence and made their flag. Thereafter, rather than a school or a movement, the word continued to designate a generation of "angry young men" and a controversial climate, obscuring fairly different sometimes contradictory sensitivities. Ce style bien particulier est né au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le terme « brutalisme » connut une grande vogue parmi les architectes, sans qu'on sût jamais précisément ce qu'il recouvrait. C'est en Angleterre qu'il apparut, dès le début des années 1950, sous la forme du « new brutalism ». Un certain nombre de jeunes architectes s'emparèrent de ce qualificatif teinté de violence et en firent leur drapeau. Par la suite, plutôt qu'une école ou qu'un mouvement, le mot continua de désigner une génération de « jeunes hommes en colère » et un climat polémique, masquant des sensibilités assez diverses et parfois contradictoires.
